About Rose Folkes
Early on, I was influenced by my father, a fine artist, who also opened a business selling art supplies. After high school, I went on to study at Kutztown University in PA and received a bachelor’s in Communication Design. Upon graduation, I freelanced as a graphic designer, specializing in airbrush and photo retouching. Eventually, I settled at North Penn Art where I am currently employed.
My interest in painting began in earnest when I started reproducing prints of artists’ work, also know as giclee printing. Since then, I have taken courses at Montgomery County Community College and art classes at various art leagues. Also included are on-site workshops: Plein air – Maurice River, Millville, NJ (PAFA Faculty) and Watercolor – Greenville, SC (Mary Whyte). My work has been accepted in juried shows including the Meadowood Exhibit (Skippack PA), MCCC – Schuylkill River Show, Open Spaces and Courting Art. Most recently, I have exhibited at Riverfront Center for the Arts (Millville, NJ) and The Green Wolf Gallery (Skippack, PA). Prior to those, exhibitions include Laura’s Framing and Fine Art (Emmaus, PA), Lansdale Abington Hospital, and 3rd Street Gallery – Paintings in Red (Phila., PA).
Working primarily in oils, I enjoy painting subjects that are familiar, as well as personal, to me. The connection is someone or somewhere that has left a lasting impression. My job, as an artist, is to reflect who I am, where I’ve been and what I see with a mixture of color, light and creativity.
